Do Eye Look Happy brings a vision to life and takes the viewer somewhere else.
We're a creative house built around one belief: fashion is a passport. What someone wears shows who they are, where they come from and what story they're carrying. We style, direct and connect so that story reads clearly on camera, on stage and in culture.
Everything we make works on two levels. At face value it should look good and land fast. Look closer and there's more: hidden references, easter eggs, inspirations folded into the work. Not every viewer will go looking. For the ones who do, the work becomes a journey of discovery.
Our founder, Tafara Gwata, learned that clothes tell stories from film. In Star Wars, Darth Vader's wardrobe does more for the character than almost anything he does on screen. In Belle de Jour, Yves Saint Laurent's costumes carry the film. Clothes are what we remember, and they tell us who a character is and where they come from.
That idea goes deeper than film. In Zimbabwe, where Tafara is from, storytelling is how history is kept. Folklore teaches principles and passes down values, and legacy travels through intention. His training in design (BDes) gave that instinct a structure. Do Eye Look Happy is where the two meet: campaigns and wardrobes built to carry a story forward.
Breaking into styling at the top level is hard. Credibility takes years to build. Someone just as talented can undercut you, or have a bigger portfolio. Tafara took roles close to the work he wanted, learned the people who could open doors, and gave himself a deadline to make it. When the opportunity came, he was ready. His credits now include Complex, the NBA Finals and Grammy-nominated artists.
The road had mistakes and setbacks, and it pushes out a lot of deserving talent. That's why we exist: to be the guiding hand he didn't have.
The Zimbawean Mutapa (Monomotapa) empire, one of the great royal civilizations of southern Africa, ran on community. Everyone had a role, and no one's ego was too big to play it. We build the same way: an ecosystem of creatives with distinct skills, where every role counts as much as the next.
We think like directors, not just stylists. The goal is a body of work the camera gets excited about.
Styling and image consulting for artists, athletes and influencers
Creative direction for shoots, videos and campaigns
Campaigns and brand partnerships that fit a client's world, so brands gain real alignment with talent and talent gains real opportunity
Production, pulling together the team and resources to execute
Two heads are better than one. With our network of internet-native creatives, we take an idea and make it real, and make it more than it was.
Talent. Artists, athletes and influencers who need styling or image direction and know the work we've made and the brands we're connected to.
Brands. Companies looking for a campaign, or a meaningful connection to the talent and communities we work with.
Creatives. Stylists, producers, videographers, directors, models, gaffers and more who want representation, work and a team to grow with.
We're based in Toronto and building internationally, connecting with creatives around the world. Over the next few years Do Eye Look Happy will become a full creative and entertainment agency. We'll sit between brands, talent and creatives, shaping image on every side and giving young creatives a safe place to do their best work.
Send us a moodboard, a script, a product or just an idea through the contact page, or book a call. Every project starts as an idea in someone's head. Our job is to make it real enough to step into.
